Our Story
Hi, welcome to DharmaZents. My name is Shani Dharmasena, founder and owner of DharmaZents.
My love for scents has always been a part of who I am. It started as a simple joy, lighting a candle, filling a room, and instantly feeling at ease. Over time, that love turned into something deeper: a passion for creating atmospheres that bring calm, comfort, and connection.
After having my children, everything changed. I became more mindful of what we brought into our home. I struggled to find candles in stores that were truly safe and free from toxins, phthalates, and harsh chemicals. I wanted better for my family, so I decided to create my own. I started blending clean, non-toxic fragrances using thoughtfully sourced ingredients so my children could grow up in a space that felt beautiful, grounded, and safe.
Beyond DharmaZents, I’m also a mom to two amazing little girls, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), and a real estate agent. Each role has shaped who I am and deepened my passion for creating comfort, connection, and meaningful experiences for others.
The name DharmaZents is a reflection of my journey. It comes from my last name, Dharmasena, and is a blend of Dharma, meaning purpose and righteousness, and Zents, inspired by zen and scents.
Every candle I handcraft is more than a product, it’s a reflection of my passion for wellness, mindfulness, and creating moments that bring people together. More than anything, I hope my journey reminds my daughters and others that it’s important to follow your dreams, because our children are always watching and learning from us.
